LOS ANGELES This year's Oscars ceremonies will feature a circus act -- in the form of the aerial antics of the hit Canadian Circus Cirque du Soleil, organizers said Friday.

The troupe of acrobats and Avant-Garde Circus performers -- who have entertained around 30 million people across the globe -- will appear on stage at the 74th Annual Academy Awards in a unique nod to filmmaking.

"Cirque du Soleil will be performing a piece that is a salute to a particular aspect of film we will be honoring," Oscar show producer Laura Ziskin said.

"I'm not going to say exactly what they're planning, but I can tell you that it will include a film element and will be spectacular and original," she added.

The act will include around 30 artists from five different Cirque du Soleil productions, who will perform to music composed by Benoit Jutras in a piece choreographed by Debra Brown.

The Academy Awards, cinema's highest honors, will be handed out in a ceremony in Hollywood on March 24.
